Aaamchi Mumbaii

Mumbai meri jaan…………………….
I was supposed to write this one on 13th Dec 2006, but at that time I was not aware of the BLOG thing.
Why Mumbai?
Here goes my experience, as I have not told much about myself let me reveal few more details. I am pursuing research in the field of biotech. And when I joined my lab a genotyping project was running where we were supposed to genotypes the asthmatic individuals to know much more about the intricate pathways of this respiratory disorder. We were supposed to collect blood samples from different part of India, i.e a particular population like Deccan region, etc. And on 1 dec 2006 we (Dreamy turtule, a south Indian Doc, my roomie-labmate, and one of our senior) were asked to collect blood sample from Mumbai asthmatic population. Hearing this I was like “yupieeeeeeeeeeeee” as since childhood I have never been outside to Delhi, except to my grandparent’s home, Haryana and UP. ;) More thrilling was to go by train which I never have been…………
6 DEC 2006 ……….Mumbai Rajdhani……………..4:45pm at Nizammudin railway station
7 dec 2006 …………..Dadar………………sorry…………I don’t remember time..
We stayed at lower parel in some vet. College.
During my way from Dadar to Parel……….I noticed a very peculiar thing in Marathi people. Like u can easily distinct them….spl to women…lanky gait…..wheatish complexion……….long hairs….and beautiful big innocent eyes.

Day 1: Day one was shocking at breakfast table………
Menu………vada pao………. missal pao……sheera…………poha. I though may be this restaurant is not good, some other expensive one, may have better options ;). But u know every day we landed up at new places only to find the same menu…………to be honest I didn’t enjoy my breakfasts in mumbai. Untill and unless we have deep fried Alooo-paranthaas… we cannot get motivated for our job, hehhhhehehehhehh. Besides this every thing about Mumbai was very sweeeeeettt. After breakfast we had a list of all the addresses where we have to collect our samples. Our main job was to call those people and convince them for the blood sample.
But main problem was language barrier as 80% of the middle-class population speaks only marathi. We somehow managed 30 families… ranging from Cuffprade to Dadar to Powaii to Borivilli to Viraarr to Santa cruz to Ville parle…..each and every important place of Mumbai. And my experience in travelling all those places and meeting with all those lovely people………will write in my next blog…………Till then enjoyyy.

  1. hey ! that's a nice 1. am waiting for the next blog. i have always wondered what makes the respiratory tract manufacture copious amounts of phlegm in asthmatics which's the devil causing the irritating coughs.
